TWO KIDS by Eriata Oribhabor

#365daypoetrychallenge #Day71 I speak in lines you can feel Run bold on lines of open realities I seek core hard moulds reeling In smoking facts of life I crave hands craving fitting uplift For a people deep in self-wrought I steal lines of old and new Raising pillars yearning Gainful today and tomorrow I draft crafts of lasting memories Drawn from wells of yesterday's Bards and grey haired ones, Staging virtues for good. I speak in letters and lines you can relate Bundling holes cutting us deaths And wailing pockets across our space I roam hearts around hopeful world Battered bulldozers and caterpillars I dig deep for period finds I sing in tongues of unloading Crafts minted for consciences Parading streets as gods For heroe-worships I speak from the skies of Europe Across the rising dew of Bosphorous Today is Children Day in Turkey Kids are celebrated in the bowel of a Turkish bird Deep in the skies, Near by. Seated by are two Nigerian kids Smi...

PRETTYFACE MARY by Bassey Asuquo

Day70 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge (for all victims of unrequited love) Once I met a girl named Prettyface Mary The likes of whom set foot on our beaten path so rarely. Her presence was like sunshine pure and golden In an overcast season of promises made and broken. Consumed by her overpowering radiance, I felt entrapped within her magnetic ambience. Gushing in admiration unbridled, My opening line to her, I pronounced softly, unguarded. ‘Prettyface Mary,’ I quipped. ‘May I remain bathed in your cosy presence till eternity?’ To my entreaty, Prettyface Mary beat a silent retreat. Still, I persevered. To her, I said, ‘If no answer is forthcoming from you, my dearie ‘Then, I fear my heart Will into a thousand fragments remain shattered.’ Prettyface Mary was unyielding Perhaps my style was discomfiting. So to a different strategy I placed my hope And to the goddess of poetry I duly approached. Missives in droves I penned to Prettyfa...

TO STREET CHILDREN by Chinatu Orji

Day69 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge To street kids, finding rest in dark tunnels Laying on broken bottles Fasting for food Dancing in rags Smiling with yellow teeth Drinking from dry gutters Healing from hard drugs Taking hugs from trees Using branches as bed To homeless kids, Now drug resistants Growing compulsory dreadlocks Seeing humans as animals Thinking life is a jungle for the mighty Struggling to tell society They are not witches and wizards Sexually molested in minutes Dying from stigma Dying from starvation Dying from infirmities In shallow graves unmourned To wandering kids, Who have never tasted fried rice Who got cajoled into bad gangs Who had to birth malnourished infants Thinking their life is a mess Breathing in carbon dioxide Shivering with bare bodies under rain Who will maybe not read this You are noble and tremendous You will rise again There's absolute hope for street kids. Chinatu Orji is an amazing P...

THE VICTIM CALLED NIGERIA by Edmond Eko

Day 66 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge I am a polity in distress Maimed and emasculated I've lost my glorious days Alas!I sit askew with shame I'm a victim of circumstance Sandwiched by two opposing forces Where do I go from here? How do I ward off these monsters? I'm distraught and sad Fraught by myriad vices I've been deceived many a time By evil walking in simple ordinariness But is it my fault to be richly blessed? Is it my fault to be raped by my own children? My limbs are weakened and numbed My brows tired by onslaught of woes I've been beleaguered and wounded By pelts coming from within But I've kept my faith, perhaps too long Now many deride and scorn upon my name I'm the practical jokes of parliamentary sessions I've been defaced and smeared by my very own! Forced to feed on my innards Denying me the brimming wealth of my barns See how they loot and divide my possessions Even before the dusk...

WE ARE HERE AGAIN by Edmond Eko

Day 65 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge We are here again At the time of shenanigans When words are cheap When suavity is mastered And the people 're fooled The moments have come For theatrical melodrama Of giant bills and flyers When friendly enemies dangle us On marionettes like puppets We are here once again At the time of volume deception And 'chameleonic' traits When fantastic lies fill and bloat Our gullible famished stomachs The times are here When truth is compromised And our rights sold for pittance On the street of falsehood For another baptism of anguish This is another season of subterfuge When deceit bare its teeth And dare come to us yet again in the open Jangling shackles of our slavery in one hand Rice and salt in the other asking for our suffrage We've come another full circle When we pay obeisance To oligarchy with sweat and blood Amidst frenzy applaud as corruption walks in With aplomb through the s...

BRIBERY by Okam Kalu

Day 64 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge Oh! Greedy men, how long will you live in bribery? Disguised, yet committing secret robbery; Hoards money in excess, yet unsatisfied Oh! Men of greediness, stay away from bribery because its reward is misery; Though money collected in secret appears to be sweet; But its repercussion often brings it open in the street; Like pregnancy whose pleasure was enjoyed in the secret; Oh! Men of greediness, stay away from bribery or face its heat; Bribery has come to stay in our days and its damage to humanity is unquestionable; Like a communicable disease, Speedily turning the hardworking minds to lazy and incapable; Oh! Men of greediness stay away from bribery, for no sinner will go unpunished For a better nation, we all need to put a stop to robbery. For if all of us engage in it, who shall create an awareness against it. Okam Kalu is a Poet and a Writer. He strongly believes in the pen as a weapon for mass destruc...

GOAL by Dorcas Odok

Day 61 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge Walking through towns of thorns I strode towards fire Through piercing pebbles Taking gingerly steps On sorry feet Like an emissary of misery On a journey My face weary of smiles Masked with pain Eyes gleaming with fire Striding towards perfection I sought for sunshine Fingers delving into sordid soils Searching for joyful claps Digging for gold. Symphonies of pain coloured my gloom My face beaming with streaks of hope As I clasp my hands with sorrows Drums of discord rolled around my feet As I swam through webs of sunlight Teeth gleaming towards perfection As I held the gaze of my goal! Dorcas Odok is an artful Poetess, Writer and a member of Poets in Nigeria (PIN) UNICAL. The above poem won her the 3rd position for the Sprinklestoriez Poetry Contest 2018.

GOAL by Tydale Abigail

Day60 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge We left our shores with wraps of worth Across the air, Above the land, We spelled smiles sprinkling on the stretches of our lips. But when we landed, Croatia's breeze almost crashed our cuddled intentions Oh shit! Came the chorus from our hearts; Cracking through the walls under our hats, Piercing into the spines of our hopes, We were smashed by the donors of smart failure. But we never gave up Well, we garnished our eyes with care We greased our minds with action Our skins were embroided with a target, To counter every crashing cries with the stunts in our legs So, the galaxy glossed our glow from Musa's might Then all at once, We made Iceland lie down in green pastures Our heights became higher than the hemps of their ice We were burning with the beams of the Sokoto sun Because, Musa gave us all the goals. Tydale Bassey Abigail is a Poet, an amazing Spoken Word Artiste and a His...

CHANGE by Nnane Ntube

Day 59 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge Idling bullets Shedding tears Armed men on helpless skirts, Lofty speeches Lobbying media Ashes in streets, eyes sweating in tears Bloodlust states, Oily smiles, salty games, Utopian view of dungeon states Tallied not with ancestors' wishes. Come all! Have a seat! Ascribe our ill-fate to the fall of our faith, Neutralize man's slaughter, corruption... Gratify hearts with Emblem of change. Nnane is a Cameronian Poet and Writer. OUR FATHER IS NOT A MAN by Veralyn Chinenye

Day 58 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallengw We had played in this garden, till you rode in like a prodigal Your beast had burdened our faces with sharp blades The broken lines ran across our faces with disgust We will not seal our drums with undiluted honey The cock has crowed in the morning, we are scarcely awake and have risen up We drum a dirge, mourning from dusk to dawn What father takes shield and leaves the children drenched in the heavy rain and bitter cold Licks the pap and gives the empty bowl to the children Gathers his loins and flees when there is a fire And camps steadily at the enemy's roof What father would demand our emaciated bones a sport for his delight Make our hearts his railway Forge deaf ears to our anguish Turns stone dead to his inflicted and set his seeds ablaze while they rest What father will fill our bellies with toxic fertilisers Watch us make a dance for the whirl wind And grind our seeds into powdery The eyes ...

CRY OF A BLACK MAN by Nwobi Chidubem Valentine

Day 57 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge They wrote me down in history With much bitter and twisted lies I was a joke in their story Out of rage my heart cried Is it because I have oil wells Pumping in my living room? Or my story of mineral boom Which disturbs you like dangling bells? Or for gold mines Digging in my yard? Does my sadness upset you? Was it my bravery that threatened you? You envy my spirit for hard work And treated me like pork You love to see me broken Bowed head and honoured eyes My helpless self and spirit frozen As I sold my tradition With the uncertainty of tides I am dark, so are my dreams I am black in colour and spirit realm Being black is unfortunate Those were your words, Which made me hate my fate Just like the sun I will rise Just like hopes springing high I will rise I will rewrite my story I will revenge with fury I am black, I am strong I am brave, I am great I will still rise And I will conque...

KEEP THEM SAFE by Ofem Ubi

Day56 #366daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge For black boys who became premature men with backs that became trunks to carry responsibilities until they slouched For mothers who have forgotten how to walk because of bended knees so much walking seems like a myth For prayer points that sound like manifestoes and the plea to GOD to end the lives of our enemies For black girls who became mothers before they became children whose childhood were ceilings too high for reach For moist dreams and dry realities and those who saw puberty a shadow they embraced before time For too much love yet lack of it For fathers who have become newscasters ever ready to rebuke through whips of advice For New Years Eve and the blessings we left on our seats after service For those with spines as railways Rode upon by life’s wheels. Ofem Ubi is a Nigerian Poet, who writes poetry everyday. He blogs at scripted.overblog.com. He coordinate Poetry activities in his university...

FOR BOYS UNKNOWN by Jojo Inika

Day55 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallengeb To the boy that was touched before he even knew how to spell touch and to the boy that was made a man before he reached his twelfth birthday, to this boy, I am sorry. I am sorry for the filth those hands spread into your young body , for all the times you were told to do it, to place yourself in between her legs and feel her folds, for all the times your willpower was taken away from you with a threat to silence you forever if you ever dared to speak. I apologise for the burden of secrets you carry within your chest, for the chamber of stolen innocence you were trapped in with no way to escape, for the nightmares that creep into your brain every time you have to touch someone else , for the recurring visions of your body being moulded into what it was not ready for. To the man you are now, the man plagued with demons birthed by the very people who were supposed to be your angels, the man with denial running through ...

AWAKENING by Dorcas Odok

Day 54 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge Come together, Let's gather around this coven of misery Let's mourn this haven of tears This crazy society Plastered with phases of electrifying droughts Asthmatic power supply Epileptic dreams Where the flag of ethnicity still flutters And the people are governed by religious foxes Come together, Let's wash in this pool of tears Let's sniffle in each other's arms And share consoling whispers Let's burn down these readymade smiles Let's sip from these wells of love Let's mingle our bodies And bask in never-ending laughter Let's stay, unapologetically genuine And share this sincere laughter Connecting these broken bodies For then, Will we heal. Dorcas Odok is a Poet/ Writer and a member of Poets in Nigeria (PIN) University of Calabar Connect Centre. She is also a Naturalist.

Happy Fathers Day 2018 Day53 #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge Can i tell you a story? Years ago, a gift was born Today in this moment in time Coloured with an assignment Not a mistake, not a misfit, nor miscalculation of man's imagination A delibrate plan of divinity Shot out from eternity With a package to deliver to humanity Can i tell you a story No one can do it like you would do No one can say it like you would say You are more than enough for the assignment If you will, you will If you believe, you will If you see it, you will If you pray it, you will If you reach for, it you will You can stretch for new heights But? Can you burn with passion? Can you run with passion? Your time starts now... Can i tell you another story If we wait for fair weather our wings may be crippled Fly against the wind and the storm Fly beyond the status quo and the limits they have set Whether it sunny or it be rainy Fly! Generations will be affec...

THE AFRICAN CHILD by Veralyn Chinenye

Day52 Day of the African Child #365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge The journey of rhythm, nestled in melody Stewed in 'rainbowed' proverbs As the sun peeps, the moon gives way The African Child rises to the tap of the morning Chirping crickets, burping toads The wide coloured streams opening up to hands The spirit of our ancestors tickle his feet to tappings The voices of waters bear witness to his 'dabbings' The African child sings, caressing thorns; Come, come, o spirit, colour our hands again for peace between morsel and the throat. Veralyn Chinenye is an Award winning Epistolary Poet/Writer. She writes for Sprinklestoriez. You can follow her on various social media handles @ Veralyn Chinenye.
