Day 65
#365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge
We are here again
At the time of shenanigans
When words are cheap
When suavity is mastered
And the people 're fooled
The moments have come
For theatrical melodrama
Of giant bills and flyers
When friendly enemies dangle us
On marionettes like puppets
We are here once again
At the time of volume deception
And 'chameleonic' traits
When fantastic lies fill and bloat
Our gullible famished stomachs
The times are here
When truth is compromised
And our rights sold for pittance
On the street of falsehood
For another baptism of anguish
This is another season of subterfuge
When deceit bare its teeth
And dare come to us yet again in the open
Jangling shackles of our slavery in one hand
Rice and salt in the other asking for our suffrage
We've come another full circle
When we pay obeisance
To oligarchy with sweat and blood
Amidst frenzy applaud as corruption walks in
With aplomb through the same door
My innards churn in grumbling distaste
With revulsion of long bottled hatred
My words clout out with vituperation
Tearing your specious facade to reach
The midden of your milling maggots
My blood boils with sizzling fury on volcanic
At your art of chicanery, slash and burn
And I ask in the silence of my seething anger:
Don’t your conscience twinge at our pathetic plight
Or patriotism pulsates even faintly in your heart?
Edonnd Eko writes Poetry and is currently working on a short story collection and a biography for publication.
The poem portrays struggle via imageries. Nice one!
