Day 81
#365daypoetryforadvocacyandsocialchangechallenge
Come,
Let me take you beyond the oceans,
Past the rise and fall of mountain tops and valley bottoms,
Through the Nile and the Niger,
Let me show you a people rich in diversity,
Regardless of adversity
Let me show you a people who comprehend loyalty,
Who are disjointly united
Come,
Follow me as we sojourn through history's lands,
To a time when our kin were bound by feet and hands
Watch closely and see,
See how the fire of discord was kindled by foreign mouths,
As the rains came and went with our kin taking a plunge into doom,
To life's south
Dry the tears in your eyes,
Dry your eyes and look
Listen as History speaks,
Do you see the waves of chaos that spread through our lands?
Did it not spread well and smooth like sweet butter on bread?
Look at the wars and suffering induced by silly laws,
Need I say more?
Come,
Come away from History's shed
Come with me to the halls of the present
Can you smell the deceit we buy ourselves while we gladly wave the receipt?
Are these not hot saucy rolls of ignorance?
Why, our people's delight ?
See the little issues that are enthroned
See as necessity suffers in agony by negligence 's hand
Dear one, are the signs not imprinted in the sands?
Do you see the disgruntled ness of our unity?
Even as our leaders flout the laws they make with impunity
Stay with me,
Let's peruse these pages,
Let's feed our eyes on the painful details of our stagnancy,
Let's shake our heads and turn down our lips in sneers
Look here,
Right here,
See what is wrought by religion and tribalism time and again,
What a beautiful blend of hate and pain
See how fat shame is and we are its host
Have we not had enough?
Move, come with me
Let me take you to the portals of our futures,
Of the many possibilities that live
Now, pause
Pause and fuel your wonder,
Are the portals not many which lie before us?
This is what lies before you, us,
A future spun with the web of treachery and deceit,
There lies the potential to become a people who are not a people,
See another potential,
The one that destroys individualism,
That hoists the flag of equity and true freedom,
Freedom from self-imposed slavery,
Freedom from religious differences,
Freedom from tribalism,
Freedom from the clutches of painted tyranny,
Look now,
Do you see it?
An Africa of our dreams,
Come now,
Come,
Let us fight everything that exalts itself above the rise of the giant in us,
Let us embrace the spirit of Ubuntu,
Let us make,
Let us take
Let us
Us...
